Winter 2011 marks the release of ‘Always’, the second single taken from Leeds-based seven piece Submotion Orchestra’s acclaimed debut ‘Finest Hour’. The release, plus a full UK headline tour marks the end of a year that has seen the band go from strength to strength.
With ‘Bug In A Bassbin’-meets-broken beat-meets-high tech soul, and a late summer sunshine feel, ‘Always’ has been a highlight of the band’s frenetic club-style gigs and rapturously received festival appearances. These included Glastonbury, The Big Chill, Lattitude, Secret Garden and Outlook in Croatia.
A sold out tour in March was followed by ‘Finest Hour’ going straight into the iTunes electronic albums chart Top 10. Radio support has come in the shape of a Radio 1 ‘Live At Maida Vale’ session for Giles Peterson, another session for Jo Whiley and Trevor Nelson, plus plays on Radio 1, 1xtra, Radio 2, NME Radio, Jazz FM and Los Angeles tastemaker station KCRW. High-end DJ support has come from the likes of Laurent Garnier, Oneman (Rinse) DJ Flight (Metalheadz/Rinse), Simbad (Defected), Tayo (Kiss), plus Ashley Beedle and Rocky.
First up on the ‘Always’ remix front is Synkro, who maintains the live feel of the original and twists it into a hot 2-step/broken hybrid. One to watch, Synkro, has released on labels Exit (Mosaic Music EP), Blackout Music and Med School (New Blood). DJ love has come from dBridge, Instra:mental, ASC, Chris Coco, Giles Peterson, Brendon Moeller, Mary Anne Hobbs, London Electricity and Kasra.
Laxx turns in an almighty re-rub pitched somewhere between steppers reggae, post dubstep and warehouse. Laxx productions gain heavy rotation from the likes of N Type, Emalkay, Jack Sparrow, Ruckspin from Submotion Orchestra, and Walsh.
