MUTEMATH

Release new album ‘Odd Soul’ on October 3rd on Teleprompt / Warner Bros. Records

New single ‘Blood Pressure’ is available now

Mutemath follow their 2009 breakthrough album ‘Armistice’, which debuted in the Top 20 on the Billboard album chart, with the release of their third album ‘Odd Soul’ on October 3rd on Teleprompt / Warner Bros. Records.
The first single to be taken from the album, ‘Blood Pressure’, is available now and can be heard at: http://youtu.be/8ID2lxM_wL8.

‘Odd Soul’ was created with a stripped down Mutemath line-up following the departure of long-term guitarist Greg Hill. The remaining members ?C Paul Meany (vocals / keyboards), Roy Mitchell-Cárdenas (bass) and Darren King (drums) ?C embraced the spirit of independence as they spent six months working on the album at Meany’s home studio without any outside interference as Mitchell-Cárdenas covered guitar duties.

“The idea of complete isolation was the only thing that appealed to us. No camera guys, no producers, no engineers, no record label people, no management. No one would hear or comment on what we were doing until we were done,” says Meany. “We didn’t want to make blurry music. We set out to record something that was unapologetically us.”

Rooted in New Orleans rhythm and blues, ‘Odd Soul’ fuses eclectic elements ranging from psychedelia to traditional gospel to modern electronica with highlights including the bombastic Zeppelin-esque groove of ‘Allies’ to the syncopated soul of ‘Blood Pressure’ and electro-ambience of the ballad ‘In No Time’.

There’s a sense of spontaneity throughout ‘Odd Soul’ which was sparked by working on the album soon after delivering their live album and DVD set ‘Armistice Live’. As Meany explains, “We really wanted to just cut to the chase on this album and compose music that would work for us on stage. We were craving more high-spirited music for this album so any song idea that came close to depressing got nixed. We’re not good at being dark so we wanted to see how far we could go into creating something glaringly bright.”

A deluxe edition of the album will also be released which features three bonus tracks in the shape of ‘Amendment’, ‘Cold Sparks’ and ‘Sunray Part 2’.

Mutemath released their self-titled debut album in 2006 and soon developed a reputation as an invigorating live band as Alternative Press named them as “the #1 band that you need to see live.” They subsequently earned a Grammy nomination for Best Short Form Music Video for their single ‘Typical’ and also featured on the soundtrack to major movies ‘Transformers’ and ‘Twilight’. Their second album ‘Armistice’ saw them hit the upper echelons of the Billboard album chart.

Mutemath introduced themselves to the UK with festival appearances at Reading, Leeds and Wireless and also won the praise of The Sun who described them as being “like The Verve in their prime with a hint of DJ Shadow’s vision.”
