Debut album ‘I Believe You Liar’ released 7th November
Washington’s debut album ‘I Believe You Liar’ is a bristling, angry record that highlights the intense, almost unbridled passion that goes into Washington’s work. It’s a raw, emotional record, acerbic, highly literate pop music, shot through with an incredible honesty. Throw in a highly accomplished pop sensibility and you have one of the most exciting new female voices to emerge this year.
Post-punk and new wave influences abound, with musical nods to the likes of Blondie, whilst having the lyrical chops that a young Elvis Costello might pen. Its spiky, cathartic pop music.
‘I Believe You Liar’ offers a thrilling musical journey peppered with smartly observed couplets about teenage years and ex-boyfriends. Her emotive lyrics mixed with pop hooks owe a debt to the 60s girl groups such as The Crystals and Ronettes. The kind of lyrics that make tracks like ‘1997’ and ‘Spanish Temper’ such finely observed gems.
Born in Papua New Guinea, Megan Washington gone platinum in her Australian homeland. Now residing in New York, she has played the likes of SXSW and sold out shows at Hoxton Bar and Kitchen. Freshly signed to Mercury, Washington will be heading back to the UK this autumn for her biggest tour to date.
