Metronomy to play Royal Albert Hall to help engage young audiences and talents

METRONOMY PARTNER WITH ROYAL ALBERT HALL

TO ENGAGE WITH YOUNGER AUDIENCES

Having recently made the 17-strong list of ‘coolest things in the world’ by Stuff magazine, Metronomy make their Royal Albert Hall debut on Monday  3 October as part of the Hall’s Albert Sessions scheme.

The Albert Sessions is a Royal Albert Hall initiative created in 2008 that featured The Wombats- encouraging younger, up and coming bands to play at the Hall. By facilitating reduced rental fees it creates an unprecedented opportunity for promoters and gives newer artists the chance to showcase their talent within the Hall’s 5,200 capacity auditorium. Reduced rental fees will be available to promoters for future Albert Sessions to encourage further support of this scheme.

Additionally, the Albert Sessions is designed to encourage younger fans and music enthusiasts to enjoy and take part in the event. The Royal Albert Hall is once again promoting substantially lower ticket prices to attract younger audiences into the building who might not necessarily have the chance to attend a gig within the iconic venue.

To support this, student photographers who are currently working with the Royal Albert Hall’s Education department as part of the Shooting Stars project will have exclusive access to photograph the band’s soundcheck. Shooting Stars is one of the Hall’s education initiatives which gives young people termed as NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) the opportunity to train as an events photographer and then have access to photograph events at the Royal Albert Hall throughout the year with their resulting work forming part of an exhibition to be mounted at the Hall in 2012. Youngsters from The Young Journalist Academy will also get involved by hosting their own press conference with the band and will also be able to sit in on the band’s soundcheck.

Caroline McNamara, Head of Programming at the Royal Albert Hall said: “The Royal Albert Hall prides itself in being able to nurture and develop young talent and encourage new audiences into the building. By enabling upcoming artists to take to the venue’s main stage and engaging with a younger audience, it celebrates the venue’s status as an eclectic and inclusive venue, accessible to fans of any and every musical persuasion”

Metronomy have just released their third album The English Riviera and were nominated for the Mercury Music Prize 2011. Tickets for the gig will range from £12- £22 and are now on sale.  For further information or to book tickets, visit www.royalalberthall.com or call 020 7589 8212.
