Strut Records’ first night: boat party on the 25th September
aaamusic | On 10, Sep 2011
Sunday 25th September 2011 / 4pm to 12am
The Tamesis Boat Dock, Albert Embankment
Acclaimed Afro, disco, funk and soul imprint STRUT RECORDS embarks on the first of a series of one-off London parties this month with a Sunday session on a 1930s Dutch barge, the Tamesis Dock moored at Albert Embankment, the label’s first club night for more than eight years.
From Strut’s launch back in 1999, their parties became essential events, from packed monthlies at London nightlife institution Eve Club on Regent Street to Islington’s Electrowerks featuring guests as diverse as Danny Krivit, Grandmaster Flash, Ashley Beedle and Ross Allen.
The first 2011 party brings together a quartet of DJs involved with Strut’s album releases alongside members of the original Strut label team: DUNCAN BROOKER compiler behind key Strut albums like ‘Nigeria 70’ and the ‘Next Stop Soweto’ series), TONI ROSSANO (original Strut PR guru / Blackbeard / Rossoulano Edits), CHRISTINE INDIGO (Strut / Soul Jazz) and special guest BILL BREWSTER (DJ History / Lowlife).
Musically, expect a wide range of infectious archive grooves for the dancefloor, from rare Afro gems to jazz grooves, funky rock, psychedelic soul, disco and funk. The party will also feature visuals from Yer Mum and rare archive video footage on the Tamesis Dock screens.
