Two Suns, the solo project of Jake Davidson, has been writing and recording his dreamy mix of laptop electronica and live instrumentation since late 2010. The name Two Suns is derived from the fact that Davidson is the father of two young sons, and it is these loving, familial (wife and sons) relationships that serve as inspiration for the majority of Davidson’s songwriting.
With a varied musical background, ranging from playing gospel bluegrass on upright bass to fronting a black metal band, Davidson embodies the true eclectic nature of today’s musician. Although bass guitar is his instrument of choice, Davidson has worked to improve his facility as a multi-instrumentalist. This development has led to flashiness and note flurries being set aside in favor of song progression and substance. That substance has been the foundation for the Two Suns project.
March 2011 saw the release of Two Suns’ self-titled debut EP. This five song collection was met with a considerable amount of online attention considering its bedroom project beginnings and independent release. Now, four months later Davidson returns with a six song EP entitled Self-Addressed. In this release, Two Suns finds more consistency of style and a deeper development of identity. Sometimes labeled Nu-Gaze or Indietronica, Two Suns subscribes to the simple notion that you should “make the music you want to hear” regardless of labels. So sit back and relax as this mix of electronic, driving beats and melodic song structure invites you to enjoy a laidback psychedelic experience.
Self-Addressed was self-released via Two Suns‘ bandcamp (link below) on August 23rd.
