Grammy nominated Mexican singer-songwriter plays debut UK shows

“One of the most inventive and pleasing reinventions of new wave pop in years” – Daily News, New York

“Poised for a breakthrough” – Rolling Stone

“Hints of Talking Heads, The Beatles, Depeche Mode, Radiohead, Carole King and The Beach Boys” – The New York Times

In 2008 Mexican singer-songwriter Ximena Sariñana became a sensation in her homeland following the release of her debut album ‘Mediocre’.It debuted at #1, was certified Platinum, and earned its creator a handful of Latin Grammy nominations.

Sariñana is now back with her second album, her first English-language record, which has received a plethora of positive reviews in North America. Featuring the production expertise of Greg Kurstin (Lily Allen) and Dave Sitek (TV On The Radio) and fellow Mexican artist Natalie Lafourcade, the album is a collection of songs that showcase her deep, striking voice, smart, thoughtful lyrics and offbeat personality. The album also features collaborations with The Mars Volta’s Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, Aqualung’s Matt Hales and Rancid’s Tim Armstrong.

“I think of albums as Polaroid pictures of who I was at that given moment,” says Sariñana. “All the songs are a bit dark. They capture a sort of general doom that I try to compensate with humour.”

Born in Guadalajara to a film director father and a screenwriter mother, Sariñana began acting as a child before studying music as a teenager and working as music supervisor on several films. Outside of her solo work, she also collaborated with Jason Mraz on a Spanish version of his single ‘Lucky’ and has also featured on several of Omar RodriguezLopez’s solo albums.

Ximena Sariñana will introduce herself to UK audiences with three intimate London shows:

September

14th – London, Lock Tavern (Young & Lost club night)

15th – London, Barfly (Support to Dog Is Dead)

22nd – London, Notting Hill Arts Club (Yoyo club night)
