“one of those precocious talents that everyone secretly fears. A gorgeous voice and a soaring chorus, the kind that makes your heart swell a little bit. Stirring stuff.”
The Guardian
Kyla La Grange releases her new single, the double A-side ‘Heavy Stone/ Lambs’ through Chess Club Records on 17th October 2011.
Described by US Vogue as ‘heart-swelling’, and by US blog Neon Gold as ‘visceral knockouts with no pulled punches in sight’, Kyla’s sound is beautifully showcased in ‘Heavy Stone’ and ‘Lambs’. Each delivers epic folk-pop symphonies as Kyla flexes a musical talent that has drawn comparisons to Marianne Faithfull and Stevie Nicks, with a lyrical deftness that pulls the listener in.
Proving a mistress of musical storytelling, Kyla begins ‘Heavy Stone’ with her intimate vocals and a guitar lament that slowly builds to a plea of “Please don’t hold me in your soul like a heavy stone, I am carrying my cold heart home”. The song swells into a fierce and furious anthem as her voice unfurls against an orchestral wall of sound.
On live highlight ‘Lambs’, a pulsating kettledrum heartbeat is the backdrop to those now trademark smoky vocals, and a melody that sweeps into huge ceremonial harmonies, conveying the desperation and sadness of leaving someone behind.
Following a recent UK tour with her close ally Wolf Gang, two sell-out London headline shows, and a spate of festival dates up and down the UK this summer, Kyla will headline three gigs in October, launching this new single at London’s Hoxton Bar & Kitchen on the 13th October.
Kyla is currently putting the finishes touched to her debut album with producer Brett Shaw, which will be released early in 2012.
