The Great Divide to play London show in September
aaamusic | On 23, Aug 2011
The Great Divide songs mostly reflect a separation – be that a physical distance between two people, an emotional distance or a political divide – one that needs to be crossed or narrowed to bring people closer together and to hope to bring more unity to the world.
Name-checking London, Cuba and all the experiences in between – Terra Firma sets the scene and the standard, for The Great Divide, as its first album.
It features Gerald’s piano playing, horn and string arranging and singing, complimented by the talents of some wonderful singers and musicians; the young, up and coming vocal talents of Beatrice Leclere, or the subtle drumming of Eric Young, to name but two of the fifteen or so musicians that have helped to realise Gerald’s vision in Terra Firma.
This is an album of complex, multi facetted compositions, unlike so much of the formula based music of today, not always immediately accessible on all levels, but repaying repeated listening.
Its an opening statement, but Gerald is still writing songs like this – there will be more from The Great Divide.
Next live gig, Moors bar in Crouch End, London, N8 Sep 16th.
