Macks Faulkron to release debut solo EP

MACKS FAULKRON

Debut EP ‘Friends’ released 19th September

Single ‘Hairspray’ released 12th September

Hairspray and Friends are the first two releases from producer (Matt Tong of Bloc Party, Henry Clark of Rumble Strips, Dud, Wet Paint), musician (Ratty Rat Rat, XX Teens, Wet Paint), sous-chef (Nando’s) and part-time hairdresser Macks Faulkron. Having spent 7 years touring, cooking chicken and cutting hair, he holed himself up in his new home, Rex Studios, Islington earlier this year, and began putting down a lifetime’s worth of songwriting in a burst of creative excess.

The first release from these epic sessions is a trippy, moody, electro dancefloor filler that has already made a splash in the Berlin club scene. Macks has this to say about Hairspray:

“It’s an ambitious track featuring guitars and other live instruments along with crazy vocals and electronic noises in a punk-dance explosion of musical Tourette’s.”

Several white label copies already reside in the hands of some of Europe’s most influential underground DJs, and those wishing to own a copy will be able to purchase it on September 12th on extremely limited vinyl or download from Records Records Records records and selected retailers.

The second release, the EP Friends, follows on 19th September. This 7-track EP of epic, guitar-driven supertracks showcases Faulkron’s songwriting skills, and, true to its title, features guest performances from Matt Tong of Bloc Party, Angela Gannon of the Magic Numbers, and Rebekah Raa of Stricken City.

This digital-only EP complements the frenetic energy of Hairspray with 7 songs specially selected from Macks’s extensive catalogue, this time swapping computer beats for live, instrumental recordings. Macks says this:

“The EP shows a different side of me. Hairspray is quite polished and digital, whereas the songs on the EP were recorded almost live in a short space of time. This meant I had to take a completely different approach. I wanted to create a record that expressed my existence in the last five years or so. So many people have come and gone in and out of my life, and it’s something that plays on my mind a lot. Where are they? Where are my people, and do they exist?”
