Reading & Leeds Festival – Little Roy and Young Legionnaire added

| On 21, Jul 2011

LITTLE ROY cut his first single at the legendary Studio One in 1965 and grew up in Kingston surrounded by many of Jamaican music’s biggest hitters – Prince Buster, Lee Perry, Bunny Wailer & Peter Tosh.   However his newest project is what brings him to the festival this year – an incredible album called ‘Battle For Seattle’ which sees him record 10 Nirvana songs in a reggae style.  Already a hit on YouTube, this very special artist will make an exclusive festival appearance debuting this special set. With the legendary live documentary of the band filmed at Reading 92 being shown on The Alternative Stage both events will be a fitting tribute to the band 20 years after the release of ‘Nevermind’.

Also joining the bill are YOUNG LEGIONNAIRE. This is what they say about themselves “Fused by a love of detuned guitars, maths formulas and brutal volume, Young Legionnaire are three of your favourite musicians moonlighting from their day jobs in a wash of riffs, decibels and beats. Responsible for the noise are Bloc Party’s Gordon Moakes, yourcodenameis:milo/The Automatic’s Paul Mullen, and La Roux/Brontide’s William Bowerman. Bring earplugs.”   You’ve been told …

Just some of the artists confirmed for this year’s festival – which takes place on Friday 26th to Sunday 28th August at Little John’s Farm in Reading and Bramham Park in Leeds – include:  MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE, THE STROKES, PULP, MUSE, BEADY EYE, JANE’S ADDICTION, 2MANYDJS, THE STREETS, UNKLE Sounds, SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO, MIGHTY MIGHTY BOSSTONES, DESCENDENTS, PETER DOHERTY, THE HORRORS, THE MIDNIGHT BEAST, MARK THOMAS, RUSSELL KANE, TIM MINCHIN, HENRY ROLLINS, LEE NELSON, MARK WATSON, RUBBERBANDITS and ANDREW O’NEILL. Also playing are four of the artists announced for the Mercury Music Prize shortlist this week: ELBOW, METRONOMY, ANNA CALVI and EVERYTHING EVERYTHING.
