Mel Merio – What’s The Big Deal by Sainted PR

On August 1st 2011 Viennese vocalist, musician, club promoter and performance artist Mel Merio unleashes ‘What’s The Big Deal’ / ’19’ on her own label, Lovemore Records. With its ultra-squelchy bassline and bright, fat production, ‘What’s The Big Deal’ stands out from the electro pop landslide with an attitude-packed, fun-filled vivacity. B-side ‘19’ shows Mel in more somber mode, delivering an emotive low-key classic. Produced in collaboration with the electronic wunderkind Christopher Just and NY club legend Larry Tee, the release comes with a killer set of remixes from Boyfriend, ILona International, Miss Sam Sugar, Jim Warboy, Mr. Krueger and Paul Rayner. Mel has collaborated with Chicks on Speed, Clemens Haipl and Peter Pansky. She’s promoted nights for over ten years in Vienna, Berlin, Hamburg and New York, with London editions forthcoming. Party guests who’ve rocked the house include Justice, Vitalic, Jun Nakayama and Andre J.

Miss Merio sang alongside transsexual icon Amanda Lepore to a televised audience of millions at last years legendary Life Ball in Vienna – the biggest charity event in Europe supporting people with HIV or AIDS. Previous Mel Merio releases include the German hit Domino Dancing and Hipster Girl, which was released on leading US dance imprint ULTRA. Her last single ‘Lovemore’ released on Lovemore Records was met with media acclaim and dancefloor jubilation.

While growing up in Vienna, Lovemore producer Christopher Just became a headline DJ due to his underground rave anthem Ilsa Gold, plus releases on Cheap, Pomelo and Labworks. Under the name Punk Anderson, Christopher created the iconic early electroclash anthem ‘Shave That Pussy’ and later had a worldwide club smash with ‘I’m a Disco Dancer’, which featured Dave Clarke and DJ Hell remixes. More recently he enjoyed yet another club hit in the shape of ‘Poppers’ on the label du jour – Kitsune. Following the release of his top-rated album Club Badd, Larry Tee continues to DJ worldwide and in the last year has remixed Lady Gaga, La Roux and Major Lazer. Larry produced the B-52s’ first single and quickly took over the club scene in New York with the infamous DISCO 2000 (of murderous club kid Michael Allig and later Party Monster movie fame). He DJd at the ROXY weekly and co-wrote the hit record Supermodel (You Better Work) by RuPaul, which sold over 4 million copies. In 1997 Larry championed a new sound and movement which became known as electroclash. It helped launch the careers of Scissor Sisters, Felix Da Housecat, 2
