Alistair Griffin Releases Exclusive Yorkshire Version of his Top 40 hit
Just Drive (Where There’s Much There’s Brass), released today to raise money for Maris Curie Cancer Care
Alistair Griffin is the quintessential Yorkshire man. Born, bred and still residing in the county boundaries, Alistair has put together a charity concept that can see his love of music interlink with his passion for sport, charity and his home county of Yorkshire.
Alistair has written and re-recorded an exclusive version of the Top 40 single Just Drive featuring York’s Shepherd Group Brass Band expressly to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care. Alistair will be further helping to raise money via sponsorship by his inclusion in the Purple Mountain Coast to Coast Bike Ride from July 1st to 3rd.
Alistair says “We were looking at how we could help raise more money and the saying ‘where there’s muck there’s brass’ landed in my head. A week later we had scored the parts and recorded with the Shepherd Group Brass Band. It is the 3rd year I have worked with Marie Curie Cancer Care, and I have decided to put my melody where my mouth is and have come up with a whole heap of Yorkshire related ideas. I am delighted to be working with the team at Marie Curie Cancer Care and raising money to help them provide more free care to people with terminal cancer and other illnesses in our region.”
Heather King from Purple Mountain comments “Marie Curie Cancer Care is a charity very close to our hearts. This is now the third year that Purple Mountain has attempted the grueling three day bike ride. 60 people are participating this year which is three times as many as the first year and we hope that its popularity continues to grow. We go through some stunning scenery, the camaraderie is unbeatable and as is the sense of achievement at the end, especially when considering all of the hills! I would highly recommend jumping on a bike and setting yourself the challenge next year if you haven’t already.”
Cheryl Barrett, Area Fundraising Manager for North & East Yorkshire and South Tees at Marie Curie Cancer Care said: “We’re very excited by everything Alistair is doing to help raise funds and want to say a huge thank you. The money he raises will help to provide more free care to people with terminal cancer and other illnesses in their own homes or at one of the charity’s hospices. “
Back in 2004 Alistair appeared in Fame Academy and it was the support of his local countrymen and women that propelled him into the final. As Alistair says “I am calling upon the support of my fellow Yorkshire men and women to help make a difference to the work of Marie Curie.”
The campaign will be further supported by a host of Yorkshire based happenings (including impromptu performances and appearances at village fetes) and support from Yorkshire based companies.
Just Drive (Where There’s Muck There’s Brass) will be available from iTunes from Wednesday 29th June 2011.
