Having played in bands and written songs together for years; Christopher Roberts, Jason Price, Chris Jackson and Steve Drury decided to start a fresh at the end of 2010 and create something that challenged them both musically and lyrically. “As well as drawing from a wide range of influences musically, we needed to be more open and go deeper into our experiences and emotions to really write the songs that we wanted to” explains bassist Chris Jackson. “At the time of writing ‘Elevate’ we were all going through different stages in relationships so the record developed a very natural story of struggling relationships disintegrating and new ones flourishing”.
After spending the latter part of last year putting the songs together, the Southampton quartet headed to to Wales in February to record with producer Romesh Dodangoda (Funeral For a Friend, Twin Atlantic, Kids In Glass Houses) at Monnow Valley and Longwave Studios. The result, a 5 track EP that is powerful and varied from start to finish. Packed with emotional, honest and sincere lyrics the record is carried along by huge guitar and vocal melodies coupled with intimate and delicate sections showcasing Christopher Roberts’ vocal and piano skills. This is where The Grace & Death of Us really set themselves apart.
The Grace & Death Of Us release the ‘Elevate’ EP on Monday 18th July 2011.
