Introducing: The New Division

| On 24, Jun 2011

‘The New Division call their… EP ‘The Rookie’, but the So-Cal anglophiles already sound light years ahead of that.’

NME Radar Pick of The Day (UK)

‘a crisp, modern new wave sound. Call it reviving, recycling, or repurposing. It’s not gonna matter after that powerful drum machine hits the mix like a ton of bricks.’

The Needle Drop (US)

‘they’re a game changer’

Pitchfork Forkcast

The New Division produce dreamy, often dark, new wave, lo-fi pop music that shimmers with reverb laden vocals and ethereal, ambient synths which have gradually become their signature. The resultant sound echoes the band’s main British 80’s influences Joy Division, New Order and Depeche Mode whilst simultaneously retaining an incredible freshness.

The New Division began as a college dorm room project at California Baptist University for songwriter John Kunkel who began experimenting with synthesisers in 2005. Over time, his songs caught the attention of fellow students and musicians to form the four-piece working together today: Kunkel (Vocals) with Michael Janz ‘Janzie’ (Synths), Brock Woolsey (Guitars) and Mark Michalski (synths).

Having already received critical acclaim for “The Rookie” EP, and their single ‘True Lies’ / ‘Saturday Night’, the band have big plans. Currently, the band are excited to be working on their first lp, ‘Shadows’, set for release in September.
