LATEST IN HOUSE RELEASES – 4TH JULY 2011
ALBUM
JOHN MAUS – ‘We Must Become The Pitiless Censors Of Ourselves’ (Upset The Rhythm)
‘We Must Become The Pitiless Censors Of Ourselves’ is the new album from Ariel Pink/Panda Bear cohort John Maus. Like Ariel Pink meets Suicide – atmospheric 80s-tinged doom-laden electronics, deep reverb-drenched vocals and drum machines… just mindblowing live too – really intense/energetic show, John’s vocals have an Ian Curtis intensity over pulsing electronica. He’s a compelling character – from Austin, Minnesota, where he still lives, he has a PhD in Political Science and is a professor of philosophy at the University of Hawaii at Mānoa.
Here’s the video to ‘Believer’, all bells, choral soaring and echoing sentiment – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMku-GbafEg
SINGLE
LOW – ‘Especially Me’ (Sub Pop)
New single from Low, elegiac rock done the way only Low can, built on rasping blues guitars and stirring choral vocals that intone, “Cry me a river, so I can float over to you.” Written by singer/percussionist Mimi Parker, ‘Especially Me’ is the track that singer-guitarist Alan Sparhawk, her husband, credits with anchoring the spirit of ‘C’mon’, Low’s most succinct and accessible album and arguably the best in ten years.
