Thomas Dybdahl – Songs

“Songs” is the sixth album for this norwegian artist called Thomas Dybdahl. It contains 14 tracks, plainly used to describe what happened when you’re in and out of love, something you’ve probably heard million times, but not yet sang by this new voice.
The vision of Thomas Dybdahl and his guitar – as well as his bass, drums, percussion, harmonica, hammon, mandolin, banjo, piano and harp (well, as you can see he’s not an all-round musician, not at all) – is trying to be quite similar to the one of other mythic artists, like Jeff Buckley, Nick Cave and Damien Rice for example, even so not to be compared to them. It’s a calming experience, the perfect background music for a lonely and rainy day or a good companion for an occasional sadness, though eventually I think it might result iterative and without a precise aim, for sound never changes and the voice is singing a continuous broken melody.
Although this is just my opinion, maybe, as he hopes for himself, one day New York City will be dancing for Thomas Dybdahl for real; I just hope that no one will liken him to Jeff Buckley again, whose sensibility is absolutely matchless to no one.
