Stagecoach – Jonah Lomu/Tony Hawk

Boasting one of the most underwhelming names in music history, Stagecoach’s double single Tony Hawk/ Jonah Lomu stops across a cacophony of genres in the two tracks, with elements of pop and grunge intertwined throughout.
Tony Hawk, the stronger of the two tracks, utilises odd backing vocals and 90’s indie/grunge guitar to craft a wonderful single. The track is instant, tuneful and doesn’t really have a weakness. The song has constant changes of pace to keep listeners on their toes and the combination of genres makes Tony Hawk listenable for both rock and pop fans.
The other song Jonah Lomu sounds like the early work of Stereophonics (the good stuff) and sounds a lot more mainstream than the other single. Again offering up a nice selection of guitar riffs, Stagecoach show why they are being acclaimed as one of the next big British bands.
With Stagecoach already having slots at Reading & Leeds under their belt as well as being featured on TV programs Skins & Gavin & Stacey, they are a band well worth keeping an eye on. When the group do eventually release a full length LP, Stagecoach may be ready to storm the charts and keep indie rock fans appeased at the same time.
