Described by Rolling Stone as ‘A disarming collision of stark country balladry, dynamic alternative rock and arty electronic pop,’ Tell Me was produced by The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach.  ‘A pure and earnest amble through heartbreak,’ wrote Mojo.  ‘Here we have a fledgling Neko Case softly confessing age-old growing pains through assured, back-to-basics songwriting.’  Tell Me follows Mayfield’s acclaimed 2008 release,With Blasphemy So Heartfelt, which debuted in the CMJ Top 200 and in the top 50 on the Indie Albums chart.  Of that album, theSunday Times wrote, ‘A set of songs that strips pretty much everything back to basics: a keening voice, lyrics that move from rapture to doubt and defeat, acoustic and pedal-steel guitar, funereal percussion, bare-bones country-blues colours.  An extraordinary debut from an extraordinary artist.’

Mayfield first came to Nonesuch’s attention when she sang backing vocals on The Black Keys’ 2008 label debut, Attack & Release.  Her performance on the track ‘Things Ain’t Like They Used To Be’ made the then 17-year old the first guest vocalist to appear on any record released by the acclaimed duo.  In addition to producing, Auerbach also engineered Tell Me and provided backing vocals as well as acoustic guitar and drum loops.

Mayfield has toured alongside numerous renowned artists, including The Avett Brothers, Ray LaMontagne, Band of Horses, Jay Farrar, Justin Townes Earle and The Black Keys.  She recently made her television performance debut on The Late Show with David Letterman

, and will be performing several shows at this year’s SXSW.
