“Theophilus London isn’t just a rapper – he’s a Morrisey-obbsessed songwriter who, at age 22, has already become a style icon.” – GQ

THEOPHILUS LONDON – Flying Overseas – THIS IS MUSIC – 27th June 2011

Brooklyn-bred rapper, songwriter and producer Theophilus London is set to release his latest UK single Flying Overseas this June, through This Is Music Records (SMD, Little Boots, Charli XCX).
Previously featured on London’s recently released EP Lovers Holiday; Flying Overseas follows suitably from London’s debut single, which saw the ever experimental MC trapped in a Humdrum Town after splitting with his girl. In retrospect it seems the solution to his woes, is to beat the daily grind and ‘fly overseas’.
Produced and co-written by Devonte Hynes aka Lightspeed Champion/Blood Orange, whose spare bass-percussion groove, plays the perfect setting to London’s sensual verses, before pulling out all the stops for the dreamy synth-soaked chorus. For the hook, London enlists the services of the more eclectically minded of the Knowles sisters; Solange Knowles, whose unblemished tones is the perfect complement to London’s deadpan brand of soul.
Ensuring the blogosphere is kept on its toes, the single takes a reshape via two remixes. The first from man of the moment Toddla T, whose reincarnation calls upon Trigganom to lay down the vocals, completely flipping the tune into a sure-fire summer anthem. Next up, is the equally hot property of Boston duo Soul Clap, whose recent Radio 1 Essential mix and their DJ Kicks comp set ears tingling and the remix sees them exploring their EFUNK side, stripping down the original to a more minimal late night groove.
A child of the eighties, London breathed an era of silken yet synthesized pop that imbues single Flying Overseas. It’s chillwave meets hip-hop, and it’s set to send London flying!
