Towns – Fields

| On 22, May 2011

Having only played their first ever gig in February 2011, Towns are not wasting any time and release their fist single “Fields” on the 23rd of May.

This is a mid-tempo dreamy sounding alternative rock song that asks the listener why we cannot forget about the complexities of life and just hang about in fields all day. Not exactly the most “rock and roll” message but hey, The Beatles had the same idea in “Strawberry Fields Forever”.

This lyrics of this song “Why can’t we just be kids again/Make fun of our stupid friends/ Climb out of our windows late/ Hang around in fields all day”) are juxtaposed with the mature sounding vocals of lead singer James Mac Lucas, who delivers his lines in a whispery drawl that evokes a young Liam Gallagher giving this song even more of a nineties feel.

Overall “Fields” is a catchy tune and an easy listen but is lacking a certain something, an exciting quality to give Towns a unique sound and to make them stand out.
