Say hello to your new favorite female rapper. Within a year of releasing her first mixtape, DOMINATION, 19-year-old Tampa Bay rapper Dominique Young Unique has gone from rapping in the courts of her Robes Park Projects to playing a world-wide stage, performing alongside the likes of N.E.R.D, Big Boi, Die Antwoord and Gucci Mane.
Teaming up with producer David Alexander (Yo Majesty), she has a taste for rapid-fire raps and high-speed electro club beats. Youthful, raw and full of bite, this 19 year-old is crashing onto dancefloors with her militaristic mash-up of club and hip-hop.
“YES, I’ve ruddy seen her. YES, I’ve ducked and dodged her richocheting shrapnel-pinging verses. And YES, I’m aware of the fact she’s underground booty-bass’ best stab at a genuine popstar.” – NME
“Her statacco rhymes serve as the track’s bedrock rhythm while the production moves quickly between percussion-only “Lip Gloss” clap to bass-driven 1-3 bop to shimmering new wave. “I’m doin’ this right,” goes one of the many hooks packed into this short little tune. Pretty much, yeah.” – Pitchfork
“With the sexy swagger of Lil Kim, the ghetto credibility of Trina and the spitting skills of Nicki Minaj, it’s impossible to ignore Tampa electro rap queen, Dominique Young Unique” – Dazed and Confused
“The young female rapper everyone is talking about.” – RWD
Dominique Young Unique isn’t taking a break in 2011. It’s been a busy year for the up and coming rapper, with the release of the “Glamorous Touch” mixtape, a SXSW takeover, and a whirlwind of performances all over the country, including opening for Big Boi, Girl Talk and Sleigh Bells.
Now, Dominique releases “Follow The Leader,” the first video from the new mixtape. The video was shot in her hometown, Tampa, and features Dominique’s sister Jasmine, her baby niece Alexis and friends.
