Le Reno Amps – Appetite

Eclectic, crazy, indecipherable, powerful, and really, really addictive. This is Appetite, new album from Glaswegian Le Reno Amps.
Teenage-punk rage in opener This One’s Not Waiting, Wilko’s echoes in Bad Blood, darkness and desolation in gloomy Never Be Alone: Appetite is a goldmine of styles and influences. Sinners is a slow-paced hymn to melancholy that introduces the Weezerian rage of I’m Alive. Cottonmouth Rock is Queens Of The Stone Age mellowed by a joyous gipsy attitude. As band member Scott Maples describes it, Weight “is saying that if you’re the committing type, don’t commit to anything unless you’re 100% committed”.
Johnny Cash influence is clear on the incipit of You Must Remember, that grows and grows with its brass section, while Stuck in your throat simply remains stuck in your mind gently and slowly as a Trashcan Sinatras’ tune. The album ends with the raucous country of Faded Star, dismal and energizing at the same time, indecipherable summa of the album.
Le Reno Amps prove themselves as another splendid product of the sparkling Glaswegian scene and a very promising start for young label Armellodie.
