Jim Kroft – The Jailer

A familiar brand of light pop infused rock, Jim Kroft’s The Jailer may not be breaking any new barriers, but it is an enjoyable listen. Kroft seems to know his stuff when it comes to this formula, and it shows; primarily sticking to the basics (short punchy guitar riffs, a pretty good hook etc) this is a neat little track, well-paced and obviously well-thought out. While I did enjoy the accompanying remix, it doesn’t really stand up on its own and actually seems a little unnecessary, given how overwhelmingly similar it is in tone and pace to the original track. Discovering The Man is also a little disappointing, not because it’s particularly flawed, but because it sounds like any of a hundred other ‘contemplative ballads’ out there. The best of Kroft is definitely to be found in the titular track – the additional two aren’t exactly bad, just not noteworthy.
