The Computers – Music Is Dead

Sitting down to review “Music is Dead” actually gave me a few surprises; having never heard The Computers before and I didn’t know what to expect and from the innocuous introduction I certainly didn’t expect this wonderful enveloping punk sound. The vocals can best be described as “shouty” but there is definitely a good old fashioned rock and roll undercurrent to this track that will make it accessible to a far greater audience. It is not a particularly melodic track but rhythmically it is incessant and all elements combine to make what is essentially an incredibly catchy track.
“Burning Love” is a far more accessible effort which combines a jangling piano and a tapping beat to make an incredibly catchy track. This is far more melodic that “Music is Dead” and I actually think it is a much stronger track, however, I imagine this is solely due to my particular music taste than any real qualities intrinsic to the track. Tonally, it has a much happier vibe and the lyric “I’m just a hunk of burning love” never failed to make me smile in the sunshine. Highly recommended.
