Shuffle coming up @ Plug: Japanese Popstars and DJ Fresh

JAPANESE POPSTARS // BECKY HAYES// LJ FREEMAN // OLLIE HAYES
May kicks off with a visit from an act who played for us at Shuffle last time when a fairly unknown act as part of a Stanton Sessions. Having gone on to blossom into stars of their own, this time they return as a headline act in their own right. Plug welcomes THE JAPANESE POPSTARS on Saturday 7th.
Not Japanese, and still not yet really Popstars either, they’re actually from Ireland. Consisting of three DJ/producers with number one records in the US & Australia and a host of live appearances under their belt, The Popstars are a force to be reckoned with. Having played at numerous festivals and club venues since their last visit to Plug they’ve fine tuned a belter of a show which encompasses many CDJs and bit of magical audio trickery thrown in too.
Since their debut single they’ve gone on to work with a host of top musical talent. Mercury Prize-nominated Irish singer-songwriter Lisa Hannigan appears on the uplifting, melodic house of ‘Song For Lisa’ and Chicago house legend Green Velvet provides his unique vocals to ‘Let Go’, a storming, twisted, electro banger. There’s plenty to choose from and their sets twist and turn between hands in the air monsters to deep and dark tech house. Something for everyone. Good times.
The Live room it’s FLOORFILLERS bringing its Saturday night magic into the venue for more weekend escapism. Ollie Hayes (Hallam FM) needs no introduction – at Shuffle he will be dropping the biggest dance anthems selected from the best years of your life, mashed up to the bangers of now:
Dizzee meets Pendulum, Deadmau5 rubs up to David Guetta, whilst Calvin breaks down into Faithless, Darude and the Prodigy.
In Earth we have the rapidly expanding RnB sessions with Becky Hayes & LJ Freeman, expect everything from the old school vibes of Black Street and R Kelly to modern day grooves from Labyrinth to Gyptian to Nicki Minaj.
All for a mere £5 Advance ticket
SATURDAY 14th MAY
DJ FRESH // BECKY HAYES// LJ FREEMAN // OLLIE HAYES
We’ve been very excited about this booking since it was all confirmed a while back, and quite frankly it’s been very, very difficult keeping it under our hats for so long. Saturday 14th of May sees a debut at Shuffle for DJ FRESH, a producer and DJ we absolutely love. Words cannot describe how big this night is going to be….
FRESH is a producer well on top of his game, a DJ who smashes it every time and man who could actually be said to be behind the very success of Drum & Bass itself. A founding member of D’n’B crew Bad Company, he enjoyed massive early success with them before going solo in 2003. Going on to form the mega successful label ‘Breakbeat Kaos’ with Adam F he even managed to discover and sign Pendulum on the way.
With a touch of the massively bass-heavy sound of Dubstep, and a twist of jump-up D’n’B bounciness, Fresh has now kicked off the new decade with club smasher after club smasher. Nothing highlights this more than the single ‘Gold Dust’. The tune gathered massive support from DJs and clubbers all over the world and has catapulted our man into DJ superstardom.
2011 looks to be yet another impressive year, with a string of killer remixes on the way (his latest remix of Herve’s Together is a dubstep/breaks beast of a tune) he’ll certainly be tearing up Plug big style. Simply massive.
