“One of the most distinctive records we’ve heard this year.” – The Guardian
“There is no-one out there making music like Merrill Garbus.” – The Times (5/5)
“Total conviction in her personal, idiosyncratic, high-stakes music.”
– Pitchfork (8.8 – Best New Music)
“Overflowing with hip-hop, reggae, Afrobeat and funky noise freakouts. It all hangs together thanks to Garbus’ voice, which slides seamlessly from Joplin-esque howls to delicate coos.” – Rolling Stone
“Stunningly inventive. Garbus rivals peak-period Eno and Byrne for the sheer inventiveness of her fusions of African song and western art-pop.” – Uncut (4/5)
Today, tUnE-yArDs release their much anticipated second album, w h o k i l l. Backed by a wave of critical praise following thrilling performances at SXSW and the memorable video for lead track, ‘Bizness’, w h o k i l l is a bold step forward for the band, pulling in new fans across the board. Showcasing a rich sonic palette, the brighter production values displays the sonorous voice of Merrill Garbus and the keen pop sensibility at the heart of the band.
Ahead of the album’s release, Merrill recorded an interview with NPR, in which she discussed the creative process behind the making of w h o k i l l. tUnE-yArDs tour North America and Europe throughout the spring. All dates are listed below, along with the video for lead album track, ‘Bizness’.
