12 years ago, MTV hosted Ibiza’s first and only outdoor music festival. Some of the biggest names from the International music scene performed to thousands on a sunny hillside. Tickets for the event were the most sought after passes on the Island and for the first time ever on the White Isle, live mainstream artists, performed alongside the biggest names in dance, becoming an inspiration for the multi genre club line ups we see on Ibiza today. The festival became a major feat of achievement and a symbol of the power of the MTV brand. Never before had promoters been able to secure the collaboration and support of the Island authorities, which opened the doors for the promoters who’ve followed and still enjoy hosting parties for thousands of clubbers from around the world over a decade on.

This year MTV returns to host a series of live events at one of the Islands oldest and most spectacular clubs, Amnesia. Home to the Balearic pioneers, This year celebrating their 20th Birthday, Amnesia’s decks have been frequented by the Gods of Clubland now for two decades! MTV”s music events are world renown, the popular music network has unparallel relationships with the jet set world of the musical glitterati and access to the very best in new and established talent. The Summer program will follow last years star studded events; MTV Crashes, Isle of MTV and The EMA”s.

For the whole of the summer season – starting on FRIDAY 1ST JULY – MTV will host 10 branded events at Amnesia, welcoming between 4000 and 6000 people to the dry ice, lasers, strobes and killer sound system at every night.  The 10-week summer long event will officially launch with a headline set from a very special Ibiza exclusive from one of the worlds biggest artists, (to be announced later this week) and finish with a stunning surprise line up on 2nd September.

Every Friday Amnesia will come alive with incredible performances – taking place between Amnesia’s two rooms. Line up on The Terrace, includes;DURAN DURAN (WiTH DJ SUPPORT FROM MARK RONSON) on 12th August, 2MANYDJS (LIVE), RICHIE HAWTIN PRESENTS PLASTIKMAN (LIVE) and MARK RONSON & THE BUSINESS INTL, (LIVE), with many more live headline acts to be announced over the coming weeks. Ibiza legends LAYO AND BUSHWACKA will be hosting ‘MTV & Amnesia present Shake It Ibiza’ in the main room, with MAR-T and special guests including MARCO CAROLA, MAGDA, JAMES HOLDEN, DJ RALF and many more DJ’s to be announced.

The headline sets will be aired in the form of 2 x 1 hour specials called “I WANT MY MTV IBIZA’ on Saturday 6th August at 9pm and Saturday 9th September at 9pm on MTV UK’s premiere music channel; MTV MUSIC (#350) MTV DANCE (#353) incorporating must see live performances, artist interviews and exclusive backstage access.  The specials will also be available to view on mtv.co.uk across the summer, with full access to video content, galleries and interviews. MTV Spain will also be promoting the shows across their channels throughout the summer, along with MTV HDbroadcasting to 27 Countries worldwide.

Speaking from Coachella, where the band performed last night, singer SIMON LE BON said: “Duran Duran have both a musical connection and a personal history with Ibiza, but we’ve never actually done a show on the island, despite going there and enjoying everything it has to offer for years.  With our roots firmly in dance and electronic culture, Ibiza has always been a part of our musical DNA so we’re really looking forward to finally performing there at Amnesia, which is certainly one of the island’s best clubs.  This is a great moment for us right now, with a new body of work that we’re really enjoying playing live, our European tour wouldn’t have been complete without a stop in the party capital of the world.  We’re also really excited to be partnering with MTV on this one  as we have such a long and creative history with the channel.
