“Record Store Day” will be celebrated by independently owned record stores all over the world on the 16th of April in order to promote their unique culture that is unfortunately in decline. Hoping to have their single as the official single of Record Store day is UK acoustic duo Daydream Club who will release their single ‘The Record Shop’ on the same day.
Daydream club– Adam Pickering and Paula Walker; say they wrote the track as a tribute to the golden years of record stores and vinyl releases and what a fitting tribute it is. Daydream Club have a retro sound that is far from the auto-tuned dance beats that have taken over radio today.
The track begins with a melancholy guitar motif and is shortly followed by the harmonious vocals of Pickering and Walker who tell the story of a quaint lovable record store. ‘The Record Shop’ song has a lamentable feel to it-you can easily hear the disappointment in the voices of the protagonists when the little shop closes down. However, this song manages to remain incredibly charming and captivating due to the delicate harmonies and beautiful guitar progressions.
