“Moon Duo are able to achieve awing levels of depth here, but it’s made more impressive considering how easy these songs are to follow. Where some of their output (and the same can be said about Wooden Shjips) is about getting lost in the fog, here the band helpfully lays a trail of breadcrumbs.” – Pitchfork
Ahead of their debut full length album release ‘Mazes’ through Berlin label Souterrain Transmissions on April 28th, MOON DUO have unveiled a new video for the album’s psychedelic-pop title track.
Made by the band themselves, the‘video can be seen here:

Mazes sees Wooden Shjips guitarist Ripley Johnson and his partner Sanae Yamada explore a far broader and lighter sound than their first two critically acclaimed EPs Killing Time (2009, Sacred Bones) and Escape (2010, Woodsist). Recorded in San Francisco and mixed in Berlin during 2010 as the band prepared to move to the mountains of Colorado, Mazes is the sound of Moon Duo carving out their own identity, looking to the horizon, and moving forward.
As Ripley summarises, if Mazes is a quest, a journey through American landscape and music, its key is “finding one’s place in the world; moving forward, and the different paths one takes moving through life, trying to reach various goals, literally moving; love; pain; change. Or just getting by, and making sense of things”.
