Ice Black Birds @ XOYO

Tonight’s band Ice Black Birds are Brighton locals. I would never guess, they look like proper deep-south Americana guys with their long hair and gangly good-looks. Origins aside, their music betrays an intricate knowledge and love of classic rock ‘n’ roll, blues and alt-country.
The band opened the show ‘Curated by Lyle & Scott’. Despite their early billing, the venue swiftly filled up with keen gig goers, drawn in by Ice Black Birds’ angular, shout-along and undeniably catchy tunes.
I also quite like Lyle & Scott’s approach to curation, choosing different genres for the same night. Something’s obviously going right as it’s unusual for a venue to be so packed as soon as the doors open.
Ice Black Birds rather impressed me. Although they were the first band on, they writhed around the stage, swung guitars around and yelped into their microphones as if they were headlining Glastonbury.
Although not making the most challenging or interesting music out there, Ice Black Birds are a damn fine band to dance along to. Just released single 22:22 is catchy enough to be a serious hit and should be the sound track to many a summer party.
