TINIE TEMPAH AND ALFIE BOE TO BE HONOURED AT THE NORDOFF ROBBINS O2 SILVER CLEF AWARDS

Nordoff Robbins have today announced that chart topping British rap sensation Tinie Tempah and leading classical tenor Alfie Boe will be honoured at this year’s Nordoff Robbins O2 Silver Clef Awards Lunch. The star studded annual fundraising event, recognising outstanding musical talent, takes place on Friday 1 July 2011 at the London Hilton,Park Lane. The event is in aid of Nordoff Robbins – the chosen charity of the UK music industry – who use music to transform the lives of vulnerable people.
Tinie Tempah will be given the TAG: Design & Interactive ‘Best Newcomer’ Award, whilst Alfie Boe will be presented with the PPL ‘Classical’ Award by comedy actor / writer Matt Lucas – who will perform alongside Alfie in the West End production of ‘Les Miserables’ this summer.
Alfie Boe said “Nordoff Robbins is anincredible charity and I am honoured and humbled to be receiving the Classical Award at the Silver Clefs. Nordoff Robbins’ life changing work has the power to help so many people and I’m a great believer in the healing power of music.”
TV presenter and journalist Jane Moore will host this year’s awards, which will see a further seven trophies handed out during the afternoon, including the much coveted Nordoff Robbins O2 Silver Clef Award. In addition to the awards presentations, an auction of one-off music memorabilia and money-can’t-buy items will take place.

Nordoff Robbins use music to transform the lives of people of all ages all over the UK. Supported heavily by the music indutry,where they are the charity of choice at the BRITs and the MITs, they provideover 45,000 music therapy sessions annually in a variety of settings across the UK including schools, day centres, hospitals, care homes, in addition to their main centre and units.
The annual Nordoff Robbins O2 Silver Clef Awards Lunch, which began in 1975, is now the jewel in the charity’s fundraising crown and a highlight of the UK music industry’s calendar. Sponsored by O2 for the past nine years, and now in its 36th year, the event has raised over £8 million for Nordoff Robbins since its inception. Last year’s winners included Muse, JLS and Dizzee Rascal and honourees in previous years include The Who, Elton John, Pink Floyd, Paul McCartney, Sting, Take That, Kylie Minogue and many more .
Tinie Tempah – TAG: Design & Interactive ‘BestNewcomer’ Award
The undisputed breakout star of 2010, Tinie Tempah has enjoyed a tremendous 12 months – he has topped the UK Singles Chart twice (with ‘Pass Out’ and ‘Written In The Stars’) as well as going straight to No. 1 with debut album Disc-Overy in October 2010. A two-time BRIT Award winner in 2011, Tinie has toured with some of the biggest names in R&B and hip-hop including Jay-Z and Rhianna, has been endorsed by the likes of P Diddy and Snoop Dogg and has developed his own clothing brand, Disturbing London.
Alfie Boe – PPL ‘Classical’ Award
Alfie Boe is one of the UK’s leading tenors, whose most recent album Bring Him Home is now certified Gold with over 100,000 sales. Recent opera performances have included a return to the English National Opera in ‘La Boheme’ and “The Mikado” and also the Royal Opera House in Gounod’s ‘Romeo et Juliette’. After the sell-out concert performances at The 02 to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Les Miserables, Sir Cameron Mackintosh announced last month that Alfie will be reprising the role of ‘Jean Valjean’ in London’s West End from the end of June, through to end of November, just ahead of his first sell-out UK Tour
