Theatre Royal Unveil Single Details

| On 20, Mar 2011

This April Theatre Royal release the 2nd single from debut album ‘from rubble rises…’ in the shape of ‘If You Could Stand Up (you’d walk away)’ via The Preservation Society Presents. This bittersweet slice of soaring alternative pop is featured on Music Weeks Presents Vol 8 and in the words of Artrocker Magazine ‘heads straight for the melodic jugular.’

Theatre Royal, named after the neglected and dilapidated Victorian theatre that they broke into alongside fellow Medway residents Billy Childish and Lupen Crook are Oliver Burgess (vocals/guitar), Robert Wilkinson (guitar/vocals), Brendan Esmonde (Bass) and Jonathan Gibbs (drums). The band take the raw DIY spirit of the ‘Medway Sound’ and infuse it with a new sense of ambition and pop sensibilities which has gained them airplay on XFM xposure and BBC 6 music as well as heavy rotatiom on New York’s WFMU by cult  DJ Billy Kelly.

‘If You Could Stand Up (you’d walk away)’, equal parts despair and defiance, is a two-chord stomp with a blue eyed soul that shuns glitzy production in favour of a melodic heartbeat and an impassioned vocals. The song is released on digital download and will be celebrated with a hometown performance April 29th alongside labelmates Kids Unique, on Britains 2nd oldest stage The Royal Function Rooms, giving a Kes-like two finger salute to the Royal Wedding celebrations.
