Sophie Barker – Say Goodbye

Say Goodbye is the first release from Sophie Barker’s highly anticipated second album Seagull. The track flows with a simple beauty as the breathy tones of Barker’s voice effortlessly drive the instrumentals to create a sublimely layered and haunting sound. The track is well structured with an effective build up from a relaxed acoustic sound to the more forceful electric guitars in the crescendo, finally fading into what can perhaps best be described as the sounds of a ride at a deserted funfair, adding to the other worldliness of the track.
The song did not grab me by the throat or even leave me craving for more; it did however coax me into a state of relaxation and daydream on an otherwise stressful train journey. Barker allows you to say goodbye life’s worries and trivialities as she invites you to enter her own ethereal state of uncomfortable belonging and offbeat serenity.
