Marlena Shaw is among the most versatile and charismatic jazz vocalists on the scene today. A former Count Basie vocalist, and one of Blue Note Record’s biggest stars in the ‘70s, she is probably best known here for her hit California Soul which sound-tracked a KFC advert, and her performances are marked by an artful blend of soul and straight-ahead jazz.

RONNIE SCOTT’S JAZZ ORCHESTRA presents ALL THINGS ALL FUNKY!

Led by award-winning saxophonist and band-leader Pete Long, the RSJO is one of the UK’s finest Big Bands and features the cream of UK talent. Tonight’s show features big band versions of funky jazz tunes from the likes of Buddy Rich, Maynard Ferguson, Tower Of Power and The Brecker Brothers.

Expect trio interplay and improvisations of the very highest order as the trio launch their third critically acclaimed album ‘VIA’ an album full of dazzling interplay and superlative original compositions.

Along with Bill Evans, arguably jazz’s most influential pianist of the last half century. A titanic virtuoso pianist whose chord voicings and superb modal phrasing made him an essential part of John Coltrane’s classic quartet – undoubtedly the greatest jazz group of them all, and a massive influence on almost every young pianist since.  He appears here with a stellar quartet featuring Coltrane-influenced, former Miles Davis and Charles Mingus, altoist Gary Bartz (with whom Tyner first worked over 40 years ago), bassist Gerald Cannon and top-notch Cuban jazz drummer Francisco Mela.

Support on the 6th form legendary British bebop saxophonist King and a cracking trio featuring pianist Steve Melling, bassist Geoff Gascoigne and drummer Doug Sides. On the 7th from all-star British jazz group, led by formidable pianist James Pearson and featuring gospel-tinged jazz singer Gibbons.

A genuine legend of the British music scene for over fifty years, Fame’s blend of jazz and R&B earned him three number one hits in the early ‘60s. He has been a fixture of the Soho scene since then, when his cool vocals and superlative hammond playing lit up such legendary venues as the Flamingo and Wag club and a key member of Van Morrison’s groups. He appears here with a cracking band featuring trumpeter Guy Barker, tenor saxophonist Alan Skidmore, vibes player Anthony Kerr, guitarist Tristan Powell, bassist Alex Dankworth and drummer James Powell,

Led by top-notch funk, blues and jazz guitarist/vocalist Tony Remy (Incognito, Annie Lennox and Craig David), the electrifying Blues Experience specialise in blues music from Chicago to the Delta, West Coast and British. Expect blues classics from Eric Clapton, BB King, Freddie King, Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, Albert King, Peter Green, Howlin’ Wolf, Robert Cray amongst others. Superlative modern jazz guitarist who moves effortlessly between spidery Frisell-like moments of clam and fast-fingered virtuoso passages, and who’s played with the likes of Brian Blade and Gary Burton. A deft, highly original improviser, whose style draws on a myriad of influences from Coltrane to Bud Powell, he is especially drawn to the Great American Songbook, although recent albums have found him exploring big band material and beautiful ballads. He appears here with a top class band including drummer Justin Faulkner, bassist Eric Revis and rising-star pianist Aaron Parks, a recent visitor to the club with his own trio.

Daughter of club favourite, the great Nina Simone, Simone is very much her own woman, a singer, songwriter and performer whose ability to transcend genres echoes the tradition of her mother. Blessed with a rich vocal range, an innate skill for lyrical interpretation and a soul-deep understanding of music as a means of healing, empowerment and celebration, she is very much her mother’s daughter.  A highly-praised live performer whose impressive resume includes starring roles on Broadway in such acclaimed musicals as Rent and Aida, Simone has developed an exciting and diverse repertoire of pop, soul, jazz, rock and funk, and her acclaimed 2008 release, Simone on Simone featured evocative new versions of material associated with her mother. She appears here with a top-notch band including drummer Paul Robinson who played with Nina Simone.

EDDIE PALMIERI & THE AFROCARRIBEAN ALL STARS

Eddie Palmieri is a Grammy Award winning Puerto Rican pianist, bandleader and musician who for over half a century has been one of Latin jazz’s most dynamic and influential figures. From his early ‘60s recordings with his band La Perfecta to recording with Cal Tjader, the Fania All-Stars and Harlem River Drive in the ‘70s he was an essential driving force in the development of a unique New York Latin sound and he is renowned for his own dynamic improvisations and virtuoso playing.  A true legend, Palmieri appears here with a world-class band featuring Philip Dizack (trumpet), Louis Fouché (saxphones), Jose Claussell (timbales), “Little Johnny” Rivero (congas) and Luques Curtis (bass).

For more than four decades, three-time Grammy winner Dave Holland has been renowned as one of the world’s greatest bass-players. Born in Wolverhampton, he made his name playing at Ronnie’s in the ‘60s before being heard by Miles Davis one night, who hired him on the spot! Now over forty years later he returns to the club with a stellar quartet, featuring top-class saxophonist Chris Potter, brilliant pianist Jason Moran and virtuosic drummer Eric Harland, in what will surely be one of the hottest tickets in town!
