Tall Ships Announce New Single & UK Tour

| On 10, Mar 2011

Clash Magazine: Ones To Watch In 2011: Destined For A Very Happy New Year
NME: Daily Download: Foalsian indie pleasure, all sharp edges and soft melodies and post rock nuances.
The Line Of Best Fit: Song Of The Day: Music That Will Glow Incadescently And Radiate Warmth To All And Sundry
Plate tectonics – the study of how the Earth’s plates are driven and shaped by geological forces that keep them in constant motion.
‘Plate Tectonics’ is the stunning new single from hotly tipped newcomers Tall Ships. Gorgeously euphoric, ‘Plate Tectonics’ is full of intricate twists and turns that engage the listener from the off. It ebbs and flows between incessant, driving guitar riffs and an urgent simple beat before breaking down into a masterful bass and drums driven half time to create a layered and increasingly epic wall of sound. Ric Phethean’s warm, emotive vocals compliment this intricate music perfectly to create a truly joyous listening experience.
Tall Ships, originally from Falmouth but now living in Brighton, have been garnering attention across the blogosphere, print and radio with their complex, layered and beautiful soundscapes and intelligent songwriting to create music that still manages to have the potential for mass appeal.
Elements of math rock and angular pop have drawn inevitable comparisons to the likes of Battles and Minus The Bear but the band cite the likes of Sigur Ros, Prince and Explosions In The Sky as their musical influences.
They are also fast gaining a well deserved reputation as one of the most innovative and exciting live bands in the UK right now. Mesmerising to watch, they frenziedly swap instruments, get theatrical with loop pedals and share vocal duties with such energy and deftness you can’t help but be wowed by them. They have already toured with the likes of The Futureheads, Tubelord, 65 Days Of Static, Maps & Atlases, Baddies, Dananananaykroyd and Minus The Bear.
They will be supporting Three Trapped Tigers in May and playing some key festivals this summer, plus before that you can catch them at Huw Stephens’ night at The Social in London on 12th April – and at the Notting Hill Arts Club as part of Record Store Day on 16th April.
