Claire Nicolson/Yellowhammer – You And I

Imagine an alternate universe in which the next James Bond film was a light-hearted indie flick with Zach Braff as an awkward 20-something Bond with commitment issues that reveal themselves with hilarious results. Truth be told the film itself could either be amazing or a total disaster but whatever happens, this is the theme, and it’s excellent. As summery as it is sumptuously classy, it floats along on beefy soul drums, a striking string sample and Nicolson’s wistful voice, producer (and brother) Hugo Nicolson creates a soundscape that comes across like if Phil Spector discovered subtlety in the best way possible. Even at four minutes long it’s still too short in the best way possible, leaving a brief but indelible impression, like momentary eye contact with the most beguiling person you’ve ever had the fortune to see, except in this case all it takes to relive it is just a click to replay it. Which, if you’re anything like me, you will. Time and Time Again.
