WILD PALMS – Until Spring

| On 07, Mar 2011

Finally ‘Wild Palms’ debut album is out and this band is ready to challenge as one of the best new acts of 2011.

Until Spring’ does not take the distance from the first EPs of the band and this is probably already the best quality for a piece of work cohesive, innovative and consistent.

Wild Palms draw upon the best of noise pop from the 80s, the most innovative shoegaze of early 90s, and blend those ingredients updating them in a hypnotising indie-sauce, worthwhile of Wild Beasts and Foals.

Most recent single ‘Delight In Temptation’ is probably the summa of the album, a sonic exploration of edgy guitars and diabolic atmospheres, a mix of melancholy and energy.

14 minutes-long ‘Not Wing Clippers’ and ‘Caretaker’ are pure post-punk frenzy and will appear for sure on the end-of-the-year-best-of-lists. Here the touch of producer Gareth Jones is clear and the lot reminds a bit of These New Puritans.

80s’ reminiscences a la Now Order, Cure, and Echo and the Bunnymen find a new light reaching peaks of originality we can rarely find in this age of revivalism.

‘Until Spring’ is out on March 7th on One Little Indian records. Wild Palms are now touring around UK, and will touch London on the 10th, at the Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen, for a show that promises to be unmissable.
