Sankeys make WMC Miami debut at National Pool – Sat 26th March, Miami

| On 06, Mar 2011

Whilst rumours have abounded about Sankeys taking root in NYC, it’s enough to make you want to hop on a plane right now and find out what they have got planned in the city that never sleeps. A fittingly pulsating city for the World’s Best Club as voted by DJ Mag readers. But there’s something a bit closer in the calendar to consider first; when you see what Sankeys have got planned for this year’s Winter Music Conference, you might be tempted to say “and it’s about time, too.” But you would also need to bear in mind that some things are really just worth waiting for. Having dipped their toes in the pool of Miamian waters in previous years with Tribal Sessions sojourns at some of the city’s coolest clubs, Sankeys is finally making its proper debut at the WMC this March at the National Pool, Miami Beach. And what a debut it is, with NYC’s Teksupport producing what’s all set to be one of the parties of the WMC.
Pooling together such a collective of talent is no mean feat, even amid the richness of the WMC’s musical feasting; with almost every DJ on the planet converging on one set of co-ordinates, bringing everyone together with one ethos is a considerable task, one to which Manchester’s Sankeys has risen to with its usual verve, assembling a continent-crossing lineup of a suitably insane Sankeys standard; the guys don’t do things by halves, after all.
The show is headlined by one of house music’s enduring mavericks: Todd Terry. With many seminal tracks under his belt including I’ll House You and his remix of Everything But The Girl, two tracks which helped shape dance music’s evolution. His legendary InHouse Records label is a stable of talent which has produced over 500 tracks. Todd’s genre-defining sets encompass deep house, disco and hip-hop. Sankeys’ own Ellesse has the honour of playing back to back with Todd at the party. His latest cut, New York Boy, has been heavily charted and is in the boxes and wallets of many of the world’s leading spinners.
David Vincent, Sankeys director, says that, “We know Todd is amazing full stop and though he would be perfect to headline this show for us. And of course it’s a massive day for Ellesse too as they will play back to back. We’ve got a huge billing for this all day party and we can’t wait to get out there and show the WMC what we’re about.”

There follows a flush of talent as hot as Florida’s sun; Pokerflat’s Steve Bug is an electronic music ambassador and a lover of vinyl, crafting his beat-laden excursions from the finest 4-4 with one eye always on the groove. The UK’s Nic Fancuilli is a Sankeys regular and during his time traversing the globe he’s notched up a residency at Space Miami, the Ibiza counterpart’s Terrace as well as honing his own Club Class sessions around the UK. Back to back Berliner beats come from Tiefschwarz and Sante: two – well, actually three – of Europe’s finest deep house producers converge together for a rousing session of electronic revelry. There’s representation from The Martinez Brothers who have in Manchester won the hearts of the Sankeys’ faithful; in Miami they guest for the legendary UK club on home turf.
Techno stalwart Paco Osuna also stars. Resident of acclaimed Barcelona night Club4, he is a revered DJ and producer. Hopping back over the pond again, NYC’s very own Antonio Piacquaido will demonstrate his mastery of techno and tech-house. The self-taught studio whizz has a 3-disc artist album in the pipeline and will be involved with Sankeys NYC. Watch this space! Fellow New Yorker Dave Rosario is a fast-rising talent on the US scene; finally Canada’s Carlo Lio completes the billing. His pulsing tech-house and groove-led minimal music has made him one of Toronto’s leaders of the club scene there; Sankeys welcomes him to Miami.
