Nylo – Control

Nylo are very interesting brand new band based in North London and composed by three Italian guys who like eighties and early nineties British music and started a band with the aim of doing that kind of music.
The result is perfectly successful because “Control”, their debut single (maybe a tribute to Anton Corbijn’s eponymous movie about Ian Curtis’ life?) is the kind of track to listen to for the first time and say “that sounds good, I wanna hear more”, because they have the perfect balance between music already heard and original elements, accompanied by a persuasive and attractive voice.
Another clear fact is that they like distorted guitar and synth used like special effects to create a space atmosphere, very inspired by Muse from this point of view. Also the voice is echoed to get this ethereal and suspended sensation.
On the refrain the sound get dirty, but it lacks of incisiveness, I would have made the groove stronger, but I don’t want to teach the job to Howie B, who produced the record.
In the end Nylo are a good promise in the contemporary rock – electronica scene.
