Jim Kroft – Memoirs From The Afterlife

| On 25, Feb 2011

Memoirs From The Afterlife’ is the latest effort from independent artist Jim Kroft and it is an incredibly interesting single noticeably combining influences in an entirely paradoxical way. It is an ever shifting piece with its melody altered continually by key changes that morph and twist unpredictably. It is about as panoramic as a song can possibly be managing to combine the theatrical with wide spanning orchestral sounds in an incredibly innovative and fresh way whilst capturing the essence of psychadelia without ever falling into the left wing.

B side ‘Cracked Polaroids’ is a snapshot of a Parisian café which is somewhat sweeter and perhaps more accessible than the title track. For some this track will be a little too cutesy but it manages to pack a punch too with a rather lovely melody as well as vocal performance. The remix puts ‘Memoirs From The Afterlife’ into a much more stripped back atmosphere where the double tracked vocals are allowed to shine among beats rather than the great orchestral scores in the original. A very interesting single package, I look forward to what Kroft thinks of next.
