Liverpool Sound City Announce partnership with The Hub Festival for May 2011

| On 24, Feb 2011

Liverpool Sound City is proud to announce working in partnership with The Hub festival, which takes place on the city’s iconic Otterspool Promenade, featuring two days of amazing music along with the usual mix of awe inspiring BMX, skater and boarder tricks on display. In keeping with LSC’s grand tradition of breaking new sounds and supporting the next generation of talent alongside global stars too, it’s a fittingly immense lineup across the weekend. There’s a fantastic wristband offer of £25 which combines both The Hub Festival and all LSC 14+ shows at the O2 Academy Liverpool between May 19th & 21st, including Funeral Party, Mona and Lower Than Atlantis on Sat 21st and Set Your Goals on Fri 20th.

At The Hub, Welsh post-hardcore rockers The Blackout headline Saturday with their furious drumming, soaring melodies and a dual vocal assaults famed across the globe. They are followed by Florida’s emo stage demons, Mayday Parade. Newbies to the scene Francesqa have already made waves during their short career with their anthem-led rock; pop-punk party people We Are The In Crowd are one of NYC’s hottest exports and also ready to rock the Liverpool Sound City stage. Chickenhawk are current Artrocker front cover darlings and Fine Young Firecrackers and Decade all support, along with Hub competition winners, local band Driven Overboard.

Sunday sees another day of immense bone-shaking music, headlined by more Welsh post-hardcore talent; Funeral For A Friend and Kerrang! Best Newcomer award winners are guaranteed to bring The Hub to an incredible climax.  Alt-rocking Young Guns are a British band who have charted in both rock and indie camps, with sell-out tours under their belts who will rock Liverpool hard. The King Blues (TBC) are riotous and raucous blend of ska, punk and rock, whose political-influenced music is compared to The Specials and The Clash.  London’s post-hardcore We Are The Ocean are another ground-shaking band whose 2nd album, Go Now and Live is hotly-anticipated; Don Broco, For Eyes and In Casino Out all support, along with Hub competition winners, local band CANDIDATE23.

And, it’s not just about the music – BMX legend Jerry Galley, skateboard gurus Pete King, Chris Oliver and Rodney Clarke and pro BMX rider Bas Keep will be showcasing their skills throughout the weekend at The Hub. Boarders, skaters and BMX-ers are all encouraged to show off their skills on the gravity defying vertical ramp – the largest in Europe at 13.5 foot tall. Festival goers are encouraged to bring picnics and camping chairs for a weekend of extreme rides and BMX stunts. There will also be dance offs between Bboys and Bgirls from across the globe who will battle it out to win the title of ‘International Break Dance Crew’ in the UK’s largest outdoor international break dance competition.

The Hub are also on the hunt for the city’s future music stars to help rock the Otterspool Prom venue.  Local bands are being given the opportunity to win a place in the line-up – all they have to do is go to www.hubfestival.co.uk, upload a sample of their music and fill in the online application.
