The News of the World Children’s Champions Awards returns for its eighth consecutive year on 30 March 2011 bigger than ever with brand new host, Davina McCall and an extended TV broadcast scheduled for Sunday 3 April on Sky Living HD.
This heart-warming and prestigious awards ceremony celebrates and recognises some of the UK’s unsung heroes who go the extra mile to make a real difference in the lives of children. Winners can come from all walks of life and have previously included brilliant teachers to a school dinner lady, a life-saving action to a hospital cleaner, a member of the emergency services to incredible foster parents, the award categories are designed to honour those accomplishments and triumphs that deserve to be recognised. A brand new longer 90-minute show on Sky Living HD on 3 April will capture these courageous stories in full alongside a host of celebrity presenters and performers.
Former Big Brother presenter and mum-of-three Davina, commented: “This is the first year I’ve been involved in Children’s Champions. The heroes and heroines who win these awards dedicate their lives to children, so it’s only right that in return we give them the best night of their lives. And that’s exactly what we plan to do.
“There will be loads of stars, great music and stories to tear at your heart-strings or have you punching the air and cheering. If you need a pick-me-up just watch this on TV – it’s 90 minutes of the best medicine you can get. And as you can tell, I can’t wait!”
A celebrity panel of judges, including Manchester United and England football star Rio Ferdinand, James Corden, Gary Lineker, Lord Sebastian Coe, Emma Bunton and Stacey Solomon, will choose the 2011 winners. In addition, Peter Andre will join this year’s panel, and further to his success on the red carpet of the BRITs, will host the red carpet coverage live from the Children’s Champions Awards.
Peter Andre said: “This is a sensational event and I’m delighted to be at the heart of it. I had no hesitation in being a judge again. I’m also looking forward to hitting the red carpet and meeting the stars – not to mention the winners.
“The awards are inspirational – last year I was close to tears at some of the stories of courage, so make sure you have a box of Kleenex handy when you watch in on TV.”
Over the years the event has gained widespread celebrity support from the likes of Sharon Osbourne, Amanda Holden, Chris Evans, Simon Cowell, Barbara Windsor and Alexandra Burke who have all praised its work.
The News of the World Children’s Champions Awards 2011 are held in association with The Post Office and Barnado’s and will be broadcast on Sunday 3 April on Sky Living HD.
