Spring Offensive – Between Me and You

Spring Offensive are the most interesting low-fi band of the moment, even if they have released only an EP and a mini album till now, but there’s good material, they are talented and need only to be careful to not be too much influenced by other bands that play their same genre.
Bail out opens the EP, it lasts almost 4 minutes but sounds like an intro, with its soft piano sustained by the organ on background introducing the listener to a mystical atmosphere. But it’s not only a soft song, because the singer show his vocal power and a very charming and deep tone.
To born or built with is recorded in its acoustic versions, intimate guitars and soft voice, it’s a moment of quiet perfection, even if the rolling of drums reminds something already heard. The moment of “swallow me down” sung in choir and echoing from the right to the left channel is estranging and simply beautiful.
A statter and a start starts with a catchy guitar to go on almost a cappella with the singer left alone with the sound of maracas, after this moment the tune raise up again with a melody that tastes of south.
A let down tells of friendship and love, it’s hypnotizing when he sings “it’s couldn’t be you, shouldn’t be you” but suddenly wake me up with a shout. This song showcases some darker moments of storytelling over a fluctuating guitar backdrop.
Between me and you, the last track of this mini album, starts with a choir a cappella accompanied by a barely listenable piano substituted by an organ supported by guitars, the tunes goes in crescendo to stop and end on its peak.
It’s a very good work, I would have waited for having other songs and released a proper album, because the listener ends the album wanting more, like it was not complete, like a circle to be closed. Nevertheless these guys have what it takes to start a brilliant career.
