Toy Horses – And It Was You
aaamusic | On 19, Feb 2011
Bear with this one. Because you might find it overly twee and sentimental on the first listen, but once you leave it to rattle around your brain for a while it becomes something entirely different. Ok, so there might be some truth in the accusations of it being twee and sentimental but it combines them with buckets of charm and pure song writing talent that can’t be duplicated or faked. Hailing from sunny Cardiff, Toy Horses are quietly making a name for themselves with this kind of lovelorn, piano led pop that exudes an extremely British sensibility without losing itself to Kinks-esque music hall whimsy or sarky social comment like so many others think of when the word Britishness is brought up in music. And if this is not just a flash in the pan one off, and they have plenty more songs as utterly divine as this, then they should be set for great things. Ones to watch for defintate.
