SPOLIGHT KID RELEASE NEW ALBUM TRACK TEASER ‘HAUNTING ME’
aaamusic | On 13, Feb 2011
Spotlight Kid is a Nottingham-based shoegaze band that consists of ex-members of Six By Seven, Echoboy, Model Morning and Bent. Six By Seven and part-time Soulsavers’ tour drummer Chris Davis shares vocal and guitar duties with Rob McCleary, while Karl Skivington (Guitar) Chris Moore (Guitar) Richard Davidson (Bass) and Katty Heath (keyboard, vocals) form the core of the band.
Chris Davis conceived the band towards the end of 2005 when Six By Seven had reached a crossroads. Having already written a number of songs, he decided to go it alone. Leaving Six By Seven in March 2006 was the next step, although he rejoined in February 2007 until they disbanded in 2008. 2006 saw former Bent singer and long-time friend Katty Heath join the fold, and after six months – together with the helping hand of fellow Six By Seven members James Flower and Sam Hempton – Spotlight Kid’s debut album ‘Departure’ was completed and released via London label Club AC30 as was their recent 7” single ‘All is Real/April’ with its beautiful artwork by designer Tristian Cornelius (Saatchi & Saatchi). The band have recently shared the stage with the likes of Esben and The Witch and The Joy Formidable with a 8/10 live review from Drowned In Sound.
Spotlight Kid’s music draws influences from the likes of My Bloody Valentine, Spacemen 3, Lush and Swervedriver just to name a few. ‘Haunting Me’ features mixtures of Shoegaze and 90s Psychedelia, and has been compared to the sounds of Asobie Sesku. With its fuzzy guitars wrapped in layers of reverb and Katty’s tenderly lush mutterings subtly building on the layered walls of distortion, this is a sneak peek only conveys great things to come with their second album planned for release in the coming months.
Forthcoming Live Dates:
Club Koko w/The Joy Formidable, Tuesday 10th May, London, UNITED KINGDOM
