Blessing Force in association with TRUCK present: Blessing Force #1
aaamusic | On 10, Feb 2011
BF#1 is a two day takeover by the musicians and artists of Oxford’s Blessing Force community. The Warehouse space will be transformed by sound, light and 3d installation, turning the space including the stages into one giant set housing both the audience and the bands. This stands to be a very unique show indeed with performances from : Jonquil, Pet Moon, Labyrinth Ear, Rhosyn, Chad Valley, Coloureds, Ute, Sisterland (Ex-Tired Irie), Neon Pulse and Young Athletes League plus more TBC; Also featuring installations from Foals illustrator Tinhead, video artitst Dave MA (The Horrors, Delphic, Foals), plus Blessing Force artists Valeska Hykel (screenprinter), Seb Thomas (sculptor) and Charlotte Freeston and Amy Honour (installation artists)
With DJ sets from Solid Gold Dragons, Trophy Wife and Superreceptor
Seb Thomas: Sebastian Thomas’ practice explores the influence on our society of a seemingly exponential technological growth. Ideas of our generations over reliance on technology and its potential impact both economically and environmentally are key concerns within his work. Thomas explores these ideas through large scale sculptural and light installations creating immersive environments of dying verdure, dilapidated industry and geometrical forms within which the audience can engage with these ideas.
Dave Ma: Dave Ma is the son of a reclusive greyhound trainer. He will be creating a multi media installation over the two days of the exhibition which will include a series of portraits taken on site along with a video/sculpture installation.
People attending the blessing force warehouse party will be invited to participate in a series of portraits exploring the hope and fear that can come from recognising one’s place in the universe and the connectivity of all things. Portraits and images will be projected on the walls of the space as they are created and accumulated over the course of the weekend – ultimately providing an unpredictable document of the personality and psyche of the participants at the event itself.
Tinhead: “Tinhead aka Christopher Wright is a man of many talents. Despite also being an ex male model and multi cup winning racing driver his greatest ability is no doubt illustration. The name Tinhead may not immediately strike you as recognisable, but you will definitely have seen his work. Tinheads illustrations have appeared on every one of Foals record sleeves, even the ones before they got caught in a whirlwind of music industry frenzy, and has ultimately helped them to create one of the strongest artistic identities of any band in recent years.”
