Bullion ‘You Drive Me To Plastic’
(Young Turks)
April 25th
In November of last year, sample aficionado Bullion released his one-sided etched 12″ ‘You Drive Me To Plastic’ on Young Turks, the label that brought us The xx and Holy Fuck, among others. Stretching back to Kool Herc and Grandmaster Flash, searching for that definable break that would ignite a dancefloor and ultimately go on to spawn breakdancing and all manner of cultural movements, DJ Shadow stepped up the game with Entroducing, as did the late great J Dilla, inspiring a crate-digging generation of DJs to encompass all manner of musical styles from Krautrock, leftfield Disco, Afro inspired 70’s electronics and in Bullion’s case, the Beach Boys – when he re-imagined Pet Sounds, infusing beats inspired by the pioneering J Dilla, to produce ‘Pet Sounds: In The Key of Dee’.
Like any true artist, his proudest moments lie within his own work. Bullion’s continuous musical progression lead to the release of the Young Heartache EP, displaying his versatility as a musician on tracks such as Time For Us All To Love, which takes on an almost balearic flow. His second release on One-Handed Music was 2010’s ‘Say Goodbye To What’ single, the perfect mapping into what has lead us to this next step.
Bullion is a man of many musical styles, nowhere is this more evident than on ‘You Drive Me To Plastic’. This 20-minute journey couldn’t be kept to the elite few that have championed the work of this twenty-something londoner, ‘You Drive Me To Plastic’ will see a CD release on April 25th via Young Turks.
Bullion takes his place in session with Benji B tonight, Wednesday 9th.
