Guards
First UK live dates
Guards come to the UK for the first time in February on the back of their critically-acclaimed eponymously-titled debut EP, released at the tail end of 2010 on 3 Syllables.
Richie Follin is the beating heart of Guards. The debut EP highlights the scruffy edges, the sweet, lovelorn emotion of his new band. Having played with Willowz and released a record under his own name, Guards is now getting his full attention. He describes the sound as ‘pop wave doom’, which nicely pulls together all the different strands at play. There are allusions to early, primitive rock n roll and C86 sounds and melodies.
Richie, along with his sister Madeline of Cults fame, when growing up got to hang out with the likes of Devo and the Ramones, and you can feel their influences, the love of rock n roll in its purest form and the sense of agenda that permeates each track.
