Neverest Songs is the alias of Margate based multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Luke Twyman, who is set to release his debut, double A-side single Paper Trumpets/Softly, Quite Softly, Quite Softly through independent label Tea At Yours, on March 28th.
Initially working in a humble home studio set-up, early 2005, Twyman began to harness his talent,
before starting work on his debut album Small Voyages, in late 2008. Undertaking a small voyage of his own, Twyman travelled to New York to record the piano parts, with friend Rick Warren and by late 2009 twenty-four songs were complete, and the final thirteen tracks selected. Small Voyages was released aspart of the Unlabel catalogue, in early 2010.
With sparse composition suggestive of Bjork and Regina Spector, in their quieter moments and a vocal delivery reminiscent of Anthony Hegarty, Peter Broderick or at times Current 93; Neverest Songs bleeds sentiment, reflective of recent releases from Perfume Genius and Anthony and The Johnsons. Simple progression is met with interesting exploration, building in ways that will reward multiple listens.
Twyman’s extensive musical understanding and range has lead him to compose a recent score for an
independent film based in New York, titled All That Glitters as well as recent live performances atCafé Oto and Union Chapel, were incidentally the brooding brass section in Softly, Quite Softly, Quite Softly was recorded, by the Arctic Circle brass ensemble, Penguins With Brass.
Neverest Song’s current live set-up is open ended, with supporting members and instrumentation varying between shows, and rehearsals taking place in a boat on the Thames.
